image book reflection

June 10, 2009

I actually really enjoyed this project (aside from all the frustration, including failed papers, failed xerox transfers, etc.) Some of my images turned out pretty plain and a tad lame, but overall I know I created some good stuff.  I got really excited about using the transfer pen but with that also came frustration. I did it to work on a decent amount of things and found it didn’t like to transfer certain images printed from certain printers. Also playing with papers. I tried a few that didn’t work out. Too heavy, too slick etc. But with all these trials and some failures did learn a bunch. Keep some pieces of the gold paper below to use as reference of a good weight of paper that should go through a printer. Also that kinkos is expensive and OBP is less, can take longer but like people have said they care about what they are doing. But kinkos has those hours that come in handy for last minute doings. Even though I felt like I ran out of things today with photoshop keep playing and some of my later ones I ended up really liking how they turned out. Found the blend tool to be a friend. Even though the fabric and bow (for my “binding”) doesn’t exactly go with the image I like the ascetic of it and again got to use that fancy transfer pen. More photos and scans and a few more comments on flick set.  Didn’t even get tired of my image. Good ol’  industrial structures.

converts photographs to vector (can edit effects of trace)

click expand to convert to editable paths

i can see using this in the future to make some nice images.

managing fonts

June 8, 2009

can see what fonts are using in the document. and being able to change and switch around the fonts using.

another tid bit didn’t know…… roman= english fonts. hmmmm.

open type

June 8, 2009

little things to alter type with certain presets fonts. symbol next to certain fonts that are available for this.

all these illustrator type options makes me never want to use a word processor sort of document ever again!

so much text editing

June 7, 2009

paragraph style panel…

tabs, case, leading, language OH MY

(click on paragraph in window and click on what want in paragraph styles)

and there is more…

character styles- apply different settings to certain words inside the paragraph.

“lets say i like that”

didn’t know when doubled clicked on selections there were options… can also just move a copy.  also command k for preferences of moving adjustments.

again just like in photoshop holding down shifts keeps things in proportion

keyboard shortcuts…S= scale and R= rotate

argent points used in scaling and rotating (used to do things from a specific point) default is always in center of image

can scale to specific size with more options

for rotating can double click and set specific angle.

rotating with bounding box always rotates from center.

huh!

color play

June 7, 2009

line color (color wheel) cool to play with colors and see what different things can be done to colors relative to original. unlink allows you to move certain color on its own. and global allows to change saturation, brightness, etc.
